While that’s technically accurate, it tells you almost nothing. What actually matters is what’s included in the number you’re quoted, and most practices won’t break that down for you until you’re already in the chair.
In this article we’re giving you the transparency you actually need to make the right decision for you: real prices, real inclusions, and real financing details from our Livermore orthodontic practice, published right out in the open, so you can do all your comparisons before you decide to call anyone. What Drives the Cost of Invisalign in California?
There are four main factors that determine what Invisalign will actually cost you in California.
Case complexity
A patient with minor crowding may need 10 to 20 aligner trays over a few months. A patient with a significant bite issue may need 40 or more trays over two years. More trays means more lab fees, more appointments, and a higher total cost.
Provider type
Unlike general dentists who offer aligners as one of many services, an orthodontist like Dr. Rondon has completed an additional 2+ years of specialized residency focused on tooth movement, jaw alignment, and growth development. That means he only practices orthodontics, giving him significantly more experience in handling complex cases. As a board-eligible specialist, he is trained to determine the best time to start treatment for both adults and teens. You can learn more about Dr. Aaron Rondon and his background. If you want to understand the treatment before comparing prices, our page on how Invisalign works covers the full process.
Geographic market
Bay Area practices generally charge somewhere between $4,000 and $7,500, and Inland California offices tend to range from $3,000 to $5,500. That puts the national average at approximately $5,108, according to 2025 data published by Synchrony and ASQ360.
What is bundled into the quoted price
Some offices quote only the aligners. Others include retainers, refinements, and monitoring. That gap in what is included can mean $1,000 or more in unexpected costs.
Invisalign Pricing at Livermore Outlets Orthodontics
At Livermore Outlets Orthodontics, we publish our Invisalign pricing because we believe you should know exact costs before you commit to treatment. We offer three tiers based on case complexity.
Express – $2,900
This tier is for minor crowding, small spacing gaps, or post-braces relapse. Treatment typically takes three to six months and involves 10 to 20 aligner trays. Express is designed for patients whose teeth need a small, targeted amount of movement to reach their ideal position.
Moderate – $3,900
This is our most common tier. It covers moderate crowding, spacing, or mild bite correction, the type of case we see most often in adult patients. Treatment typically runs 12 to 18 months, and two rounds of refinement trays are included.
Comprehensive – $4,900
This tier handles severe crowding, significant bite issues, or cases that require extensive refinement over a longer treatment window. Duration ranges from 12 to 24 months, and the plan includes three rounds of refinement trays to complete your case fully.
Every tier at our Livermore office includes the same core package: all aligner trays for the full treatment, all in-office check-in appointments, AI remote monitoring between visits, teeth whitening, and one full year of Vivera retainers.
There are no hidden fees added during or after treatment. For context, most comprehensive Invisalign cases in the Livermore and Tri-Valley area fall between $4,200 and $4,900 at other practices. You can see all pricing details on our dedicated pricing page.
What Should Be Included in Any Invisalign Quote
Before you accept any Invisalign quote, from our office or anyone else, it’s important to understand exactly what it covers. A complete quote should include four things at minimum.
First, all aligner trays for the full duration of treatment, not just an initial set.
If your case requires 30 trays, all 30 should be in the quoted price.
Second, refinement trays.
After your initial aligner series, your teeth may need additional movement to reach the planned result. Some practices charge $500 to $1,500 extra for these. Ask before you start.
Third, all in-office appointments.
Check-in visits, progress scans, and attachment adjustments should be covered. If a practice charges per visit on top of the base price, your real cost will be higher than what you were told.
Fourth, first-year retainers.
Retainers hold your teeth in position after active treatment ends. If they’re not included in the quote, expect to pay $300 to $600 separately.
At our Livermore office, every tier includes all aligner trays, all in-office appointments, and your first set of retainers, along with AI remote monitoring between visits and teeth whitening. Refinement trays are included in the Moderate (two rounds) and Comprehensive (three rounds) tiers. When we give you a written quote, that number is the final number.
Does Dental Insurance Cover Invisalign in California?
Most PPO dental plans, under their orthodontic benefit, treat Invisalign the same as traditional braces, with the typical coverage ranging from $1,500 to around $3,000, and applied as a lifetime orthodontic maximum, not an annual cap. That means your plan pays that amount once toward orthodontic treatment, regardless of how long the treatment takes.
At our Livermore office, we accept Anthem, Delta Dental, Aetna, Cigna, MetLife, Guardian, Humana, Ameritas, Principal, SunLife, United Concordia, and United Healthcare. We verify your exact insurance benefit during the free consultation, so you know your out-of-pocket cost before you commit to anything.
HSA and FSA accounts can also be applied directly to Invisalign. Orthodontia is classified as a qualified medical expense under IRS Publication 502, which means you can use pre-tax dollars to cover part or all of your cost. If your insurance covers $1,500 and you choose the Express tier at $2,900, your remaining balance would be $1,400 before any financing is applied. We calculate these numbers for you at the consultation so there’s no guesswork involved. You can view our full list of accepted insurance plans on the pricing page.
Invisalign Financing: 0% APR and Monthly Payment Options
We partner with OrthoFi to offer 0% APR financing for up to 36 months. There’s no hard credit check for the initial approval step, and there is no prepayment penalty, so if you want to pay off your balance early, you can do so at any time without extra cost.
For our Express tier at $2,900, monthly payments work out to approximately $80 to $116 depending on the term length you choose and any insurance benefit applied to the balance. Longer terms mean lower monthly payments; shorter terms mean you pay it off faster. These are real numbers based on our actual pricing. When you come in for your free consultation, we’ll confirm your exact monthly payment based on your specific case, your insurance, and the term length you prefer.
How Invisalign Compares to Braces and Mail-Order Aligners on Cost
If you’re comparing treatment options on price, here is where the three main categories fall in California.
Traditional metal braces typically cost $3,000 to $7,000. The range overlaps with Invisalign because both treatments move teeth through controlled orthodontic force over a planned timeline. Livermore Outlets Orthodontics is a specialist Invisalign-only practice, so we do not offer traditional braces, but the cost comparison is useful context. For a side-by-side breakdown, read our detailed Invisalign vs braces comparison.
At-home mail-order aligners, from brands like Byte or SmileDirectClub, typically cost $1,200 to $2,400, but these services handle only very mild cosmetic cases and involve no in-person orthodontist supervision. They don't include progress scans, bite evaluation, or clinical monitoring during your treatment.
Our Express tier at $2,900 sits just above the mail-order price range but includes specialist supervision, in-office monitoring, AI remote tracking between visits, and a full year of retainers. For patients whose cases qualify, this is specialist-level treatment at a price point that closes most of the gap with unsupervised mail-order options.
Why the Cheapest Invisalign Quote Usually Costs More in the End
The lowest price tag is rarely the lowest total cost once treatment is finished.
Mail-order aligner companies scan your teeth remotely, which means no orthodontist evaluates your bite, root structure, or jaw anatomy in person. For mild cosmetic cases, small spacing, and minor relapse, this may give you an acceptable result. However, for anything involving bite correction, root angulation, or crowding beyond the mild range, unsupervised aligner treatment could actually present a real clinical risk.
The biggest, and most serious concern is root resorption, which is the irreversible shortening or damage of tooth roots caused by poorly planned force on the teeth. This isn’t a theoretical possibility or a “what if”, it's a documented clinical outcome in cases where tooth movement was not monitored by a specialist. And once root structure is lost, it does not regenerate.
Patients who begin treatment with a mail-order service and later need corrective orthodontic work typically pay the full cost of supervised treatment on top of what they already spent. In many of those cases, the corrective treatment is more complex, and also more expensive, than the original case would have been. You can read more about mail-order vs in-office Invisalign in our separate guide.
